Israel Adeyemi (not his real name) has told how Deloan, an online quick loan company, sent defamatory messages to his phone contacts calling him a thief and internet fraudster.
Adeyemi told FIJ that he took a N10,000 loan from the Deloan app because he needed the money and was eligible for the loan.
“I received a call from this Deloan application on July 10 informing me that I was eligible for a loan from their organization. When I applied for it, I was granted 10,000 naira to pay 14,550 naira within 7 days,” Adeyemi said.

“On the 7th day, which was July 16, around 4 p.m., I received a message from a certain David from Deloan that he had transmitted a faulty message to all my contacts.
” I could not believe it. I told them the loan was due that day and that I had had problems transferring the money, but would try again when I got home from work.
“Before I knew what was going on, within minutes of speaking to David, a message with my picture, claiming I was an internet fraudster wanted by the police, had been sent to all of my contacts.”

“I was so disturbed when I got home around 10 p.m. I decided to try again and the money was paid the same day.
“I decided to contact David to let him know that the payment had been made, and I also sent him the proof of payment. The most shocking part was that he kept reading my messages with no response.
Adeyemi said the Deloan company did not see fit to apologize to him and withdraw his post, even after the loan was repaid.
“I kept begging him to send a message to all my contacts that the problem had been solved, but the guy kept reading my messages and at one point he blocked me”, – he declared.

“To date, the situation has not been resolved by the company, and the funny thing is that they do not have an office address, so I cannot even take legal action against them.
“I lost the trust of some family members, friends and colleagues because I couldn’t explain to all my contacts how things were.
“The Deloan app really messed up my name for a crime I didn’t even commit. They really messed me up.
FIJ made several calls to the Deloan service line, but they went unanswered. A text message sent had also not received a response at press time.
